From One Mum to Another

"How can I practice self-care effectively and what might it look like? Please don't give me the usual advice of a bath and a facial with candles and hot chocolate saga!”

“We all know how important self-care is but many of us mums put self-care last.

As long as our babies are clean, dry, fed and watered, that’s amazing!

As a mum, it’s hard to even find time to put water on our face, or give ourselves a bite of energy. I think we all have periods of time we say “we’ll do it later, it can wait till the kids are in bed” - but by then we’re either asleep or too tired! I’ve been there - even brushing our hair can be a task too big.

But, we need self-care to be the best mum we can be. Remember: “Your children don’t want a perfect mum, they want a happy mum.”

So here is a self-care checklist for you, something for yourself to reflect on and try. No mum is ever alone and I for one struggled, but now I have a self-care routine that is simple but works.

1) Sleep = Having sleep means Mummy can function. If your baby wakes frequently, try going to bed earlier. Even if you prioritise one good night’s sleep every three or four days, it will help.

2) Eat = Eating means you have the energy to keep going. Try Cook meals, or batch cooking at the weekend, or having a list of simple, energy-filled snacks that will keep you going. Seeded crackers, apples and nut butter and so on.

3) Wash your face, brush your hair - You don’t have to be catwalk ready, but finding a nice moisturiser that smells nice and having clean, tangle-free hair will help. And your skin will glow, making you feel good

5) Keep smiling – but if you can’t, then just be ok with that too. It’s okay not to be okay

So have a go, follow through the checklist, self-care is totally allowed and so important for us all, so many mums forget or can’t find the time - but keep it simple, organised and relaxed. You’re doing just great.

Love always ‘Daisy’ xx
